Best Places to Travel in Matale
Matale paradise surrounded by the Knuckles Mountain Range, situated in Central Province, Sri Lanka, and The elevation is 364m above sea level. There are about 142km from Colombo to Kandy. The Aluvihare Rock Temple
Aluvihare Rock Temple situated in Aluvihare, Matale District of Sri Lanka. This cave temple is located 30 km north of Kandy on the Matale-Dambulla road,154km from Colombo, and 4.3km from Matale town. The history of Aluvihare Rock Temple connected to the reign of King Devanampiyatissa. The temple is the historic location where the Pāli Canon was written down entirely in the text on palm leaves. Near this temple, there are many caves which exhibit frescoes.

The Knuckles Mountain Range
You can get a superb camping experience in the Knuckles Mountain Range, Sri Lanka. It lies in central Sri Lanka, 45km away from Matale town, and 157km from Colombo, in the District of Matale and Kandy.
The Sinhalese residents have used the name Dumbara Kanduvetiya also to this area. This forest has become the home for more than 34percent of Sri Lanka's endemic herbs, and trees. Knuckles Conservation Forest was included in UNESCO natural world heritage list in 2010 as part of Central Highlands of Sri Lanka; thick layers of clouds often cover the highest mountain area. In addition to its aesthetic value, this area is of great scientific interest.
In knuckles Mountain Range, there are nine peaks over 1200 meters. The highest peak, "Gombaniya," is 1906 meters.

Sembuwatta Lake
When you pass about 22km from the Matale town, you can find this beauty of blue water "Sembuwatta Lake." "Sembuwatta Lakes is a human-made lake created using natural springs. Alongside the lake is a natural swimming pool. This beautiful area situated at Elkauwa in the Matale District of Sri Lanka, It's believed to be 9 m to 12 m deep. Currently, the lake belongs to the Elkaduwa Plantations and produces electricity for the nearby villagers. While you are spending Sri Lanka holidays sure to feel this beauty.

Muthumariamman Temple
Muthumariamman is a Hindu temple in Matale that also call as Arulmigu Sri Muthumari Amman Kovil. There are about 2.5km from Matale town to the temple. This temple completed in 1874, according to the Dravidian Architecture. Nattukottai Nagarathar (Chettiar) considered as the creator of this temple. This temple dedicated to the Mariamman, the goddess of rain and fertility. If you are eager to find about various religion visit here.

Pitawala Pathana
You can find this beautiful and unique grassland 33km away from Matale city. You have to go this distance in Matale – Illukkumbura- Pallegama road. This grassland located in the Knuckles Conservation Forest, Sri Lanka. Pitawala Pathana is a place with the highest ecological value. You can see a considerable grass spread over about 10ha and a gently sloping rock slab which covered only with a thin soil layer. There are some isolated trees and shrubs here and there. You can found many endemic plant and animal species here.
In Pitawala Pathana, you can find the Mini World's End. It is mostly like a small version of the world-famous World's End in Horton Plains. This place grants a picturesque view of the Knuckles Range and some of its valleys below. You can have a panoramic view of the surrounding nature here

Bambarakiri waterfall
If you are traveling to Pitawala Pathana from the Matale side, you will meet Bambarakiri Waterfall before it.
Bambarakiri waterfall situated in the Knuckles mountain range it's close to Rattota town. The height of this fall is about 3km. An old suspension bridge spanning this little waterfall adds the finishing touch to an already beautiful view of Bambarakiri Falls.
The variety of flora, fauna, and various types of birds in the area surrounding the Bambarakiri Falls increase the natural beauty and the value of this area.
